The Effects of Escalating Commitment on Ethical Decision-Making

Although scholars have invoked the escalation framework as a means of explaining the occurrence of numerous organizationally undesirable behaviors on the part of decision makers, to date no empirical research on the potential influences of escalating commitment on the likelihood of unethical behavior at the individual level of analysis has been reported in either the escalation or the ethical decision-making literatures. Thus, the main purpose of this project is to provide a theoretical foundation and empirical support for the contention that escalating commitment situations can induce unethical behavior in decision makers. An experimental research design utilizing a computerized investment task was administered to 155 undergraduate business majors as a means of assessing the hypotheses presented here. Results from a hierarchical logistic regression analysis found strong support for the contention that exposure to an escalation situation increases the likelihood of unethical behavior on the part of decision makers. Further, results also supported previous ethical decision-making findings by confirming the effects of locus of control (LOC) on ethical behavior. Specifically, the data indicated that individuals with an external LOC orientation were significantly more likely to select the unethical option than were individuals with an internal LOC orientation. Interestingly, support was not found for the effects of Machiavellianism or gender on ethical decision-making.     

LZW压缩数据的不均一两分段误码保护编码

由T.A.Welch提出的LZW数据压缩方法已经被广泛地应用于文字压缩。然而，因为误码对压缩数据的危害很大，所以对压缩数据的纠错编码是十分重要且必不可少的。本文分析了误码对LZW压缩数据的影响，指出同样的误码对用于重建辞书的前一部分压缩数据的危害比对后面的其它数据的危害要严重得多，提出用一种不均一两分段误码保护编码方法，对用于重建辞书的前一部分压缩数据进行更好地保护。计算机模拟显示，该方法比传统的误码保护方法更有效。     

OPTIMAL INVESTMENT STRATEGIES FOR CONTROLLING DRAWDOWNS

We analyze the optimal risky investment policy for an investor who, at each point in time, wants to lose no more than a fixed percentage of the maximum value his wealth has achieved up to that time. In particular, if M _t is the maximum level of wealth W attained on or before time t , then the constraint imposed on his portfolio choice is that W_tα M _t, where α is an exogenous number betweenα O and 1. We show that, for constant relative risk aversion utility functions, the optimal policy involves an investment in risky assets at time t in proportion to the "surplus" W _t - α M _t. the optimal policy may appear similar to the constant-proportion portfolio insurance policy analyzed in Black and Perold (1987) and Grossman and Vila (1989). However, in those papers, the investor keeps his wealth above a nonstochastic floor F instead of a stochastic floor α M _t. the stochastic character of the floor studied here has interesting effects on the investment policy in states of nature when wealth is at an all-time high; i.e., when Wt = M _t. It can be shown that at W _t= M _t, α M _t is expected to grow at a faster rate than W _t, and therefore the investment in the risky asset can be expected to fall. We also show that the investment in the risky asset can be expected to rise when W _t is close to α M _t. We conjecture that in an equilibrium model the stochastic character of the floor creates "resistance" levels as the market approaches an all-time high (because of the reluctance of investors to take more risk when W _t= M _t).

数字中频接收机的设计与实现

数字中频接收机(DIFR)是对中频信号直接采样，其信道化功能由数字正交下变频器和数字滤波器来实现。因此，DIFR适用于接收和处理多载波、多模式信号，可解决很多种信号之间的互通互连问题。本文基于DIFR对动态范围、带宽、自动增益控制和高速信号采集等技术需求，优化设计了一种大动态宽带DIFR，给出了该系统的实现方案、各部分的参数分配及系统设计指标；给出了一种新型的数字自动增益控制(DAGC)实现电路，并提出了其控制算法。
